Jasper House is a fourteen-unit residential care facility operated by AIDS Alabama that serves HIV-positive, low-income persons who have also been diagnosed with mental illness. The facility provides three hot meals per day to residents, as well as 24-hour staffing and medication supervision. AIDS Alabama is a non-profit corporation serving HIV-positive Alabamians with housing and supportive services, and is currently the largest HIV/AIDS service provider in the state. AIDS Alabama is also the state's leading provider of HIV testing and prevention education services.
Founded in 1994, Promise Homes provides quality, family-style housing for adults with developmental disabilities. Promise Homes provides not just a place to live, but a real family where intellectually disabled adults can live as independently as possible with pride and dignity. Promise Homes currently operates nine homes: six in Decatur, three in Gadsden, and a community day training facility in Decatur. Plans are underway for a new home near Bluff Park United Methodist Church in Birmingham.
