Turenne Collects Books and Blankets for People In Need

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (December 19, 2017) — The Season of Giving can be a busy and one Montgomery company wants to make sure people and kids in need don’t get left out. On Giving Tuesday in November, Turenne & Associates turned to its employees to help provide items for two local organizations in need. The healthcare service company had a coat and blanket drive for the Mid-Alabama Coalition for the Homeless (MACH) and a book drive for Gathered by Grace’s Little Libraries program. The company was able to personally present their large boxes filled with their donations during a presentation at their home office Friday.

“We are so proud of our employees and other members of the Turenne Family of Companies who helped make these donations possible,” said Jeremy Alphord, Turenne vice president of marketing. “Giving Tuesday is more than just about one day and over the few weeks of these drives, we have had so many people open up their hearts and share that we surprised ourselves.”

MACH has worked in the community more than 20 years to provide resources for the homeless and shelters. The coalition of organizations provide housing assistance, street outreach for homeless, and data collection/management about the homeless. The blankets and outerwear MACH collect are distributed to the homeless during their annual street count of the homeless.

“There’s definitely a need,” Donovan McGuire of MACH said about the donation. “Something like this brings us together as a community and that’s the biggest thing about it –helping each other.”

Serving the Montgomery and Tuskegee, Alabama areas, Gathered by Grace (GBG) is a ministry that works to engage young adults in serving their community. The ministry has been given grants to bring Little Libraries to underserved areas that may not have free public libraries that are nearby or where access to newer reading materials is limited. The small “library” cases hold new and gently used books that can be borrowed free of charge at any time.

“Every child and adult that wants access to reading materials should have it, regardless of their location or socio-economic standing,” said Rev. Tiffany C. Chaney, pastor of Gathered by Grace. “Our hope is to expose local readers to a wealth of enlightening subjects and stories.”
