From the Pharmacy…

REMEMBER TO DATE YOUR INSULIN!
May 30, 2013
Please do a daily check on all insulin to make sure your home is in compliance. This is an easy tag for surveyors to find (F431-Labeling/Storage of Meds). Each month during med cart audits, insulin is found to be either expired or not dated. Insulin vials are good for 28 days out of refrigeration (opened or unopened). When insulin is received from pharmacy, please store in medication fridge until insulin is actually needed. Once removed from refrigeration, open the vial and date it. Also remember: insulin pens require dating with a shortened expiration date. If you have any questions, please refer to the "Shortened Expiration handout found either in your MAR book or Med Postings book. And you can always call the pharmacy if you have questions.
